Coleshill School is Celebrating Record Breaking Results!

Staff and students at Coleshill School are celebrating their BEST EVER GCSE RESULTS! The comprehensive academy, and proud member of the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, has gone from strength to strength in recent years and is delighted to see this year’s cohort perform so well.

Achievement in English and Mathematics is the highest the school has ever achieved, including in the government’s new tougher measure of the Grade 5 ‘Good Pass’ which almost half of all students (49%) achieved in both English and Mathematics. The number of students achieving a Grade 4 ‘Standard Pass’ in both subjects also rose to 66%.

This year saw students studying the new reformed GCSEs in almost all subjects. The removal of coursework, for most subjects, and the increased rigour of the examinations meant that there were some nerves around how students would perform. Staff were therefore delighted to see that grades achieved in a range of subjects were impressive. 60% of students studying History achieving a Grade 5. In Science the number of students achieving a Grade 5 in 2 good sciences rose to 51%, which, along with 64% of students achieving Grade 4+, represents a significant achievement.

Staff were also delighted to see an increase in the number of students achieving top grades with 17% of students achieving Grade 7 or above in Mathematics and 19% in English. Over 40% achieved this standard in Biology and Chemistry, whilst an impressive 25% achieved top grades in Computing. Students studying BTEC subjects also achieved the highest grades, with 40% achieving Distinctions in Sport.

Headteacher Ian Smith-Childs commented, ‘The record results in both English and Mathematics, coupled with such good results across a range of subjects, give our students the foundations for their futures. These students have worked incredibly hard and deserve the success that these results represent.’

The whole school community is proud of the achievements of the 2018 Year 11 cohort and now looks forward to welcoming the majority of these students into the Sixth Form and following with interest the future studies and careers of students who are departing; this school will always be their school.
