We are delighted to announce an excellent set of A Level and Level 3 BTEC results, across a wide range of courses, at The Coleshill School. These results reflect the comprehensive nature of our Sixth Form with students achieving A*s at A Level and Distinction* in a range of Level 3 BTECs. In a year of significant growth within our Sixth Form, the whole school community can take pride in these results.
This year our Sixth Form numbers have more than doubled and we are therefore pleased to see an improvement in almost every measure being achieved by our students. The percentage of students achieving the A*/A or Distinction*/Distinction was 22% with almost half of all grades achieved were between A*/Distinction* and B/Merit*.
As a comprehensive Sixth Form we offer a range of applied courses, alongside our A Level pathway. This enables students to study Health and Social Care, Computing, Applied Science and Sport. Students have performed exceptionally well in these subjects and are well placed for further education or employment in these fields.
Headteacher, Ian Smith-Childs commented ‘We are very proud of our students and the whole school community. This year our Sixth Form has grown significantly, so it is particularly pleasing to see the improvements in results match our ambition to provide an excellent Sixth Form for our students’.
We have been proud to be partnered with the Deon Burton Football Academy over the last two years, which has seen our students achieve an exceptional level of success both in their studies and on the football pitch. The two teams finished 7th and 2nd in their leagues, with 2 boys making the All Star Team of the Season and one student winning the Golden Boot with 24 goals. Students have gained some very pleasing grades in the Level 3 Sports Diploma and are going onto to positive destinations.
These results have given our students the best chance for the next stage in their education or employment. The majority of our students have gained places in their first choice universities or colleges, with around 30% attending Russell Group universities, including Bath, Warwick and Bristol; this year students with A* grades have applied for some of the most competitive courses in the country. Several students have secured quality apprenticeships, whilst some students are taking a gap year and applying for university starting in 2020. A few students have gone into full time employment. We wish all of our students the very best of luck in this next exciting phase of their lives and remind them that The Coleshill School is their school and they are always welcome to return.
