Welcome to our website
We are a “Good” school with high aspirations for all members of our school community. Our motto of ‘learning and achieving together’ really sums up our aim to ensure all of our staff and students work together to ensure everyone exceeds beyond their potential.
Our school has been on a remarkable journey over recent years and has grown by over a third in size to 1100 students in 2017. We were praised by Ofsted for being ‘a united learning community’ and we pride ourselves on ensuring we maintain our focus on the school community by being organised into family groups within our four houses and vertical tutor groups. Behaviour at our school is excellent, with a focus on positive working relationships between staff and students and a culture of tolerance and respect.
Over the last three years our examination results have been consistently good with students achieving above national average in English and maths as well as across a range of subjects. In 2017 we have maintained our performance in English and maths at the ‘Standard Pass’ of Grade 4, with 60% of our students achieving a Grade 4 in the new harder GCSEs; this is broadly comparable to our 2016 results. In science we achieved our best ever results with 70% of students achieving 2 sciences at grade C or above, an achievement that is well above national averages. We have 11 subjects this year that are above national average. At A Level we improved again on the previous year, with an increase of the top grades; almost a fifth of all grades were A*/A with 42% A*-B. This year we have a thriving Sixth Form, with over 80 in Year 12 and we welcome over 40 students from the Deon Burton Football Academy who have joined us to study Extended Sports Diploma.
As a Business and Enterprise academy we are outward facing and aim to be a regional leader in careers and employability. We have strong partnerships with local businesses including: SERTEC, who sponsored our new ICT suite in 2017; BMW, with whom we are working on an enterprise challenge to design and build hydrogen fuelled cars and B46 who are a local network of businesses who have provided a range of employability workshops and provide excellent opportunities for our students. We are a ‘Digital Schoolhouse’ meaning we are at the forefront for teaching computing and we deliver computing to our primary partners too. We are always open to new projects and ideas so please do get in touch if you have any!
The best way to get a feel for our school is to come and visit us during the school day and have a student led tour. This will enable you to see our amazing students and teachers in action. We have places in some of our year groups and are always open to having discussions about school admissions. If you are unable to visit us right now take some time to look on our Twitter or Face Book pages and you will see the photos and videos that capture the wealth of activities and student achievement over recent weeks and months.
The beauty of working in education is that there is something every day to make us smile or laugh or burst with pride. We welcome you to come and share this with us.
Open Evening is Thursday 5th October 2017 from 6.00-8.00pm.
I look forward to welcoming you to our school.
